My work describes an idealized personal experience through solitary contact with personal objects, memories, and places. My rural background has given me a strong interest in the basic, yet often ambiguous, ideals of rural and natural life. I would like to share with my audience the rudimentary emotions and experiences found in nature and rural life as well as the deeper ponderings that result from these experiences. I am willing to embellish nature to keep it personal rather than a common reality. My primary aesthetic derives from an eagerness of medium and representation, which lends itself well to the simplicity of my subjects. I want to create inclusive sentiment and intimacy with isolated moments, while slightly obscuring personal history and meaning so that the viewer may create his or her own memory. I’m interested in playing with personal history, often including found objects in my work, to create a fictional sentiment. I think the figure is the best companion for personal ideas and frequently use it in collaboration with other media to help discuss what I believe to be personal.
